Summer Intensive 2022

Summer Intensive

Astanga Yoga Studio Copenhagen 25 - 29 July, 2022

An intensive, educational and exciting course that’s going deep into the technique, methodology and philosophy of Astanga Yoga, with a focus on the first series.

Astanga Yoga is far more than just a series of physical postures. It is meditation in motion with increasingly challenging poses that the practitioner slowly remembers and learns. In the process of learning builds strength, flexibility and endurance in the body, and bring focus and calm to the mind and balance to the emotions.

The purpose of the summer intensive is to provide clarity and understanding of how Astanga is practiced and, at the same time, experience Astanga as much more than just a series of yoga poses. You will gain insight and experience of the essential elements that define and distinguish Astanga yoga, and make it a deep inner practice. You will gain a deeper understanding of the structure and the way to practice this unique method.

In addition to theory and philosophy, much of the course will go into detail on how to perform the different asanas (the yoga poses) in the primary series of Astanga Yoga. How the breathing should be coordinated with the individual movements in out of the poses (vinyasa), and how you can work step-by-step in challenging poses. What to prioritize and focus on in your practice in relation to your body and skills, and how Astanga fits into the larger context of the teaching, insight and experience of yoga.

The day is divided into three lessons; morning practice with either Mysore or led class, followed by morning class with meditation, pranayama, chanting (Yoga sutras, mantras, Sanskrit names and counting) and yoga philosophy.

The afternoon classes are dedicated to asana techniques and learning the correct vinyasa´s. In addition to nerd poses in detail, you will also gain insight into the relationship between the poses and the series, the transitions between the poses and what purpose they have in relation to the cultivation and experience of yoga.

Astanga yoga is an amazingly beautiful journey that develops and shapes the practitioner on all areas of life. However, there are no shortcuts in Astanga, the process requires time and work.. a very long time and a lot of work. However, the result is invaluable. For those embarking on this journey, the summer intensive can provide clarity and understanding of which route is most useful to follow on this path.
