In the beginning I started practicing Astanga yoga because it was a new and challenging training, and because my personal patience was set a new and unknown test.

 

I quickly experienced that my body became toned and strong in a completely way than with other training styles. And in time I became flexible! Today I would be loath to miss my daily physical training and the mental strength that comes with it.

 

After a long day at work it is just incredibly wonderful to go to the Astanga Yoga Studio and feel the warmth, calm and focus that the training gives me. My practice generally ends with a smile and a feeling that this is right for me – even if I have had a long and tiring work day. The surplus that yoga practice gives me means that I have an energy balance, this effects other's lives in a positive way.

 

Some say that yoga makes your body more transparent. I have become more aware of my physical body and what I eat after starting the Astanga practice. It is not so much about calories, rather what type of food I find gives me the greatest energy.

 

It is a big plus that all the teachers at the Astanga Yoga Studio practice Astanga yoga, and that they have a common ground in the tradition of Astanga. This means that one feels secure in their adjustments – even when the stretch is intense! I have experienced that if one is open and has confidence in the adjustment, then even the most intense stretch gives a new experience of what ones body can do through the help of guiding hands and a few well chosen words.

 

At the Astanga Yoga Studio there is a warm and welcoming atmosphere, good facilities and not least open people, both teachers and students.

I began practicing Astanga yoga in 2008 and must admit that I am now virtually addicted.

Yoga has literally changed my life. I am calmer and happier than ever before. My physical wellbeing and feeling of personal worth has increased dramatically. I have become best friends with my body, feelings and thoughts. It feels so delightful and I enjoy the space that my daily practice gives me. I meet myself through yoga and really enjoy following the process of my development.

 

The Astanga Yoga Studio on Blegdamsvej is fantastic. I love the atmosphere, the calmness and all the loving people – in fact I feel that they are my other family. Everyone is very kind and open. I can warmly recommend that you take part in this.

Yoga became a part of my life by coincidence. I have always been keen in my personal training of tennis and fitness. About 5 years ago I tried a Hatha yoga class. It was a strange experience and since then I have felt the need to try more. After trying different yoga systems I came across Astanga Vinyasa Yoga and have been under its spell ever since. I am fascinated by the beauty of the practice. The strength and consistency of the practice suit me perfectly.

 

My almost daily practice has become an aesthetic pleasure, where nothing but my body is at work – no weights or metal, no shoes and socks – no equipment apart from a yoga mat. In an almost unnoticed way a transformation takes place. You begin focusing on the good life with all its facets, this leads to old life – sport – and work injuries disappear. Weight is regulated and maintains itself. You regain ease of movement in the body. Ones personality becomes calmer with a greater feeling of patience.

 

Even though Astanga yogas daily practice is personal there are rich possibilities for social activities, alone or with a partner. I have had some of the best vacations on Astanga yoga retreats around the world, where you always meet delight people with the same interest. I feel that Astanga yoga is a practice for life. My practice is now at the lovely new Astanga Yoga Studio on Blegdamsvej, where there are a wonderful group of very able teachers.
