New to yoga

Anyone can practice yoga. Our introduction classes introduce you to Astanga yoga in a slow, safe, and comprehensive way. We will guide you to breathe fully, move consciously and find a new focus.

We understand that starting something new can be hard. You will be challenged, but our promise is to make you feel inspired and comfortable with the practice. Astanga yoga is always based on the individual, it is a personal journey without any competition or comparison to others.

You don’t need to be flexible, fit or spiritual to start Astanga yoga and benefit from it. All you need is sincere curiosity to step on the mat with an open mind and experience the power of yoga. We invite you to enjoy and find your inner smile.

Wear comfortable, stretchy clothing and bring your own mat if you have one. We also have mats that you can use at our studio. Prepare to sweat. Wait at least two hours after meals before yoga. If you feel thirsty you can drink water 15 minutes before starting.

After intro class

After intro class you start your regular practice in Basic 1 classes, where the emphasis is on building up the foundation with the standing sequence. A few of the finishing asanas are introduced.

When you feel comfortable with the Basic 1 classes you are ready to move to Basic 2 that expands the framework and has a more dynamic flow. In Basic 2 classes we introduce the full standing sequence, first seated postures and more finishing asanas.

When you can remember most of the sequence we want to help you build up your personal practice in Mysore classes.

Mysore style is the traditional way to practice Astanga yoga where you do your own practice at your own pace. You are moved and guided further into your practice with the help of the teacher, matching your personal and individual pace.

Mysore style is named after the town in southern India where Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and his grandson Sri R. Sharath have taught the practice continuously for over 60 years.

We hope to see you soon! Check our schedule for the next class.
