Introduction class is the place to start, we will introduce you to Astanga Yoga in a safe, comprehensive way.
You will be given a short explanation of the Astanga Yoga system and tradition. We will look at the basic techniques, breath, locks, focus points and of course the first yoga positions. We will guide you through the positions helping you with advice on how to come in and out of the poses, hold balance and use your body in a sensible way.
There is time to stop and discuss, to ask questions and get some answers. This class will give you an
insight into the Astanga practice. After the class you are ready to take part in a Basic 1 class.
You do not need to signup for the Introclass or write that you are coming. Just drop in and we take care of you. Dont speak Danish? No problem, we teach you in English.
Basic I
~ Learn the basic and build foundation here ~
The class is guided emphasizing the Vinyasa technique. The use of muscle locks and focal points are introduced, these help deepen benefits and concentration. We look at more standing postures and a few of the finishing postures.
The class finishes with relaxation.
Basic II
~ Expanding the frame of Basic 1 ~
The class is more dynamic with more emphasis on flow through the sequence. The rest of the standing postures and some of the seated postures will be introduced as well as more of the finishing series.
When you can remember most of the sequence, you are ready for the Mysore-style-classes
Mysore
~ Traditional one-on-one teaching ~
Mysore style is named after the town in Karnataka southern India where Sri K. Pattabhi Jois taught the practice for over 60 years. This is the traditional way to learn and practice Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga where you do your own practice; the teacher will offer you individual guidance and adjustments. This gives a dynamic, flowing practice.
The classes are open to all levels; you do not need to be able to do the positions correctly. If you are new to Mysore-style-practice, start with what you are used to do on Basic 2. You are moved and guided further into your practice with the help of the teacher, meeting your individual pace and personal needs.
As Mysore classes are not guided you can start at any time. That is to say you start and finish your practice at a time that suits you. If you need assistance from a teacher check the schedule to make sure you start and finish within the ”Mysore-class”-hours.
Led Primary
~ Traditional counting ~
On Led Primary the whole first series is counted through in Sanskrit, where you follow the same rhythm of movement and breath. Everyone is welcome, if you do not usually practice all the positions of the first series, then you just stop when you reach your final position, otherwise the teacher will ask you to stop. You can either sit and wait the remaining few minutes of the practice and then join in with the finishing poses, or take your mat into the small shala and complete the practice at your own pace.
Useally only the first series is practiced on a Friday. This is done without drop backs. In this way the practice is repeated and trained in the rhythm and connection of movement and breath (Vinyasa). This keeps the practice precise and correct. At the same time rounding off the weeks practice before Saturday as a day of rest. In this way we follow the teaching as it is practiced today in the Shala in Mysore India.
Led Primary is recommended for everyone who takes part in the Basic II or Mysore classes. But even if you do Basis I, you are welcome to try the class.
Open Space
~ Yoga at your convenience ~
The shala will be open for self practice of the Astanga Yoga Serie. There will be no teacher present, however the shala is available and the energy of the room will be there for you to practice Astanga Yoga.
Astanga How To
